The Last 6000
Civic Advocacy Campaign to Protect Seattle’s Urban Trees

My Client & The Situation

The Last 6000 campaign is a volunteer-led initiative formed in response to the 2016 Seattle Tree Canopy Cover report, which revealed that only 6,338 “majestic” trees—defined as those with a trunk diameter of 30 inches or greater—remain in Seattle. Since its inception, the goal of the Last 6000 has been to locate and document these “majestic” trees, many of which are at risk of being removed due to ongoing urban and residential development.

Prior to the official campaign launch in 2019, they hired Numinosity to create a recognizable brand and website that would become the foundation for the campaign, initially housing brochure information about the cause, education and instruction for citizens ready to collect tree data, and a simple interface and single point of entry for straightforward, mobile accessible form submission and data capture.

Once tree submissions began to build, the campaign would partner with data and mapping designers from Tableau to create an interactive Seattle Tree Map housed on the website.

Website subscriber database capture and brand-congruent HTML emails would be used for impactful campaign updates and calls to action. Additionally, Numinosity Design would provide consultation for use of social media to expand the reach and further campaign impact.

Our Results

The Last 6000 now has a unique brand identity, comprehensive website, and active social media presence that have helped establish a recognizable and credible reputation within the Seattle community. The website has simplified and steamlined the process of data collection, making it effective in collecting community-sourced location and documentation of over 1,800 majestic trees. Citizens continue to contribute tree data, and the campaign's social media following is steadily increasing.

By mid-2024, The Last 6000 Campaign website had attracted over 15,000 unique visitors. As of March 2025, The Last 6000 Instagram account has gained 3,339 followers.

“Kim has the rare skills combination of excellent design ideas, insightful editorial suggestions, and effective client communications all along the way. The work done on The Last 6000 Campaign website has drawn 100% positive reviews and the quality set the tone for an accelerated campaign response.”
